Why Alter Your Pet Bengal (or other pet cats)
As a breeder of bengal cats I am asked many questions from prospective kitten buyers. Without a doubt I can say that the number one question that I am asked is “why do you de-sex pet kittens?” Unfortunately potential buyers are more concerned about this than they are about the health guarantees that we offer.
There are numerous reasons why I prefer my pet bengals to be de-sexed, most of which are for health reasons and the already existing problem of overpopulation of unwanted cats that are already homeless. This is a topic in which I am very stringent and passionate about. I will not budge on my stance as a serious breeder. We breed the best cats that we can breed following a very strict breeding program. We try very hard to breed bengals that meet the breed standard set forth by TICA and invest much blood, sweat, tears, time and money to improve the bengal breed as a whole.
Bengals that are not utilized to further improve the breed in a breeding program should be de-sexed. The millions of animals that are euthenized yearly could be prevented if more people thought about the health and safety of thier pets before they did their own views whether it is religious or otherwise. The health and wellbeing of your pet should be priority one.
The miracle of birth for the children. This is an all too common excuse/reason to have “whole” cats. When millions of households around the world all take this approach to teach their children about the “miracle of birth” with having just one litter it further contributes to the overwhelming existance of unwanted animals that are being killed each year. My advice to those who want your children to experience the miracle of birth is to rent a DVD and let them watch a human being born. When little “Mario” asks why he can’t have a litter of kittens explain to him that Mom and Dad aren’t ready to dedicate themselves to the hard work involved in running a breeding program that contributes to the improvement of the breed. Also explain to them about the millions and millions of animals being senselessly killed each year because of irresponsible pet owners. Be part of the solution and not the problem.
Your cat benefits from being de-sexed because:
1. They live longer, healthier lives
2. They are more affectionate and better companions
3. They are likely to suffer from anti-social behaviour
4. It elimates “heat” cycles in female cats and thier endless efforts to get outside and find a mate.
5. It means that both females and males are less likely to spray to mark thier territory in your house.
6. They are less inclined to wander, run away or get into fights, thereby reducing injuries such as ABCESSES, ACCIDENTAL DEATH FROM CARS, DOGS, ETC., FELINE AIDS
7. It reduces or eliminates some health problems that are difficult to treat such as UTERINE, OVARIAN AND BREAST CANCER in females and PROSTATE CANCER/DISORDERS and TESTICULAR CANCER in males.
I am very stubborn on this topic and will not change my pet policy to accomodate those who refuse to understand why this policy is in place. If you are looking for a un-altered cat, even though you claim to have no intention of breeding, then my cats are available at the breeder prices only. I will not lower the price just because it is to live as a “whole non breeding pet”.
I work very hard to provide my cats the best that I can give and I cannot and will not compromise my integrity by bending or swaying from my beliefs and policy, so please do not ask for a lower price. My answer will always be no. Breeder prices start at 1200 Euro and the cat must be of breeding quality regardless if it will ever be used for breeding or not. Only cats that meet the breed standard close enough to be useful in improving the breed with be offered as whole intact animals!
